Someone Dropped Out of Secret Santa? Here’s How to Fix It
It happens in almost every group: after the names are drawn, someone can’t take part. You don’t have to redraw everything and tell everyone their match has changed.
The simple fix
Say Dana drops out. Two people are affected: whoever was buying for Dana, and whoever Dana was buying for. The person who had Dana can simply take over Dana’s match. Everyone else keeps theirs.
PickMySanta does exactly this. Open “Someone dropped out?” under your results, pick the person, and tap Remove and fix. It tells you the one person whose match changed. If you sent private links, that person is marked “new link” so you know whom to resend.
When a full redraw is needed
Sometimes the simple swap isn’t possible:
It would make someone buy for themselves (when two people had drawn each other).
It would break one of your rules, such as a couple drawing each other.
In those cases PickMySanta redraws the remaining people and tells you everyone needs a new match.
What if someone drops out before the draw?
Just remove their name from the list and draw as normal.
What if someone joins late?
Add their name and draw again. A late joiner is harder to fit in without changing other matches, so a redraw is the clean option. It’s easiest if you haven’t sent the links yet.
Tips
Ask people to confirm they’re in before you draw.
Tell the group that someone left but not who, unless they’re happy for you to say.
Tell the person who now has a new match that they only need to buy one gift, for the new person.
